… From the Inside Out
Here at Revolution Gray, we’ve written before about healthy foods that you can eat to improve the quality of your hair. Experts highly recommend consuming foods like salmon, eggs and whole grains for better hair.
In general, proteins (especially salmon and eggs), whole grains, low-fat dairy products and vegetables can all do wonders for hair because they supply it with nutrients it needs to stay healthy, including vitamin B, fiber, iron, zinc, calcium and omega-3 fatty acids.
Vegetables? Whole grains? That new kid on the block, omega-3? These food recommendations are no-brainers. Not only are they excellent for hair, but they’re great for the rest of the body as well.
… From the Outside In
Have you ever seen this “I Love Lucy” episode when Ricky thinks he’s going bald, so Lucy gives him a tortuous hair treatment to stop her husband’s paranoia? Her treatment involves running different contraptions through Ricky’s hair, adding a concoction of mustard, eggs, vinegar and oil, and wrapping up the mess with a stocking and heat cap.
Lucy’s treatment may have only been invented for laughs, but actually, women have been using edible hair mask mixtures made in their own kitchen for years, and the ingredients do not stray far from the ones Lucy used.
Mustard oil (or vegetable oil, coconut oil, etc.) is a popular product for conditioning hair. It has also been said to promote hair growth by providing nutrients to the hair follicles. Mixing your own hair rinse with vinegar is another natural way to make your hair shine.
And eggs? In the middle of Lucy’s torture session, Ricky retorts, “Why don’t you put some anchovies, make a Caesar salad?” He isn’t too far off. Rather than a Caesar, many homemade conditioner recipes are reminiscent of egg salad and guacamole.
If you ever have an afternoon off and are feeling experimental, try an all-natural hair treatment made with avocado, eggs and mayonnaise. Detailed instructions can be found at Livestrong.com. Let us know how it goes!
