I use Aveda Shampoo for gray hair( purple in color) Book marked this article so I can try others. I would love to hear your ideas of a styling product that will give shine.

I get my hair highlighted several times a year so I really need something that is going to make my hair smooth and it not be dried out anymore. Shielo Hydrate conditioner has really helped in so many ways. For one I love the smell it is not strong but also not to weak it is the right amount of a smell. Another thing the Shielo Hydrate shampoo itself is not really thick it has a silky smooth feel to it. It lathers up really really well and cleans so well.

Another thing is that you don't have to keep rinsing your hair to get all of the shampoo it comes out very well. Also I have to little kids and one thing is really nice about this is that it is mild enough on the skin that you can use it to wash your little ones hair so that is a plus for me.

I bought a water filter for my shower head that removes chlorine, which can dull and give silver hair a yellow cast. Works great for this purpose. I use Aubrey Organic shampoos, mostly the Swimmers version, which is designed to keep blond and gray hair sparkling. It does the trick.

My hair is a combo of silver, gray, and white…..thick, shiny, beautiful, and getting long. I'm very "proud" of it.

Plan to grow it very long. Best thing I ever did was to stop coloring it. Wouldn't trade it for the world. Wouldn't even take my original hair color back! lol

For those silver ladies who like their hair long but worry about the work place–wear a french twist.

I use a 'blue' shampoo by L'Oréal about once a week and I find it is really good for keeping my white hairs white. You can buy it on Amazon:…. I wash my hair every day using a clarifying shampoo mixed with a little 2-in-1 shampoo. I also use a little anti-frizz gel on my damp hair before I blow-dry it. I find this works for me.

Mrs Wrights Blueing in the grocery store cheap just put it in your shampoo 1/8 teaspoon for a bottle of you shampoo

This is going to sound really goofy, but when I am out of the shampoo for grey/silver hair, I use blue Listerine. (It has to be the blue; the gold stuff will make your hair yellow.) I have a squeeze bottle of it in my shower; just squeeze out of the bottle on to your hair (I usually comb it through) and then rinse. Leaves hair unbelievably soft and gives it great shine. Also good if you have dandruff. Wouldn't do this all the time since the alcohol in it can dry your hair and scalp, but for an occasional rinse, it is great!

  7. Robin says

I use Pantene shampoo for gray hair twice a week along with my hydration shampoo for curly hair. So far so good. Since I do use a product daily to control the frizz and define my curls, I haven't had any yellowing. BTW, the Pantene is a purple shampoo.

  8. Marie says

I swear by Salma Hayek's Nuance Flax Seed Age Therapy shampoo, conditioner, and serum. They really help get rid of frizziness and make gray hair very manageable. All are very reasonably priced too. I love that they have natural ingredients, don't have parabens, and aren't tested on animals. They're available only at CVS stores or at

  9. Janice says

I like Redkin All Soft shampoo and conditioner. It does a great job on my coarse gray. It really stands up to its name, "All Soft"

I need to find a blue shampoo/conditioner. I tried the Shimmer Lights and I think I have a strange reaction to it, it gives me zits that are almost like cystic acne on my scalp. I've never had a reaction like that to anything, not even dye, that I have used. It also smells horrible!! Overall, it works on my gray to keep it bright and shiny. I just can't handle the stinky, zitty part. :(

  10. Suzanne says

well, it's just a little over 3 months since I've had anything colour wise done to my hair… grey is beginning to come in and lots of lovely silver sparkly strands are showing themselves! So far, I really like the colour that's emerging… xo

  11. Ann says

Just decided never to colour again! I have been using only a rinse for along time and my hair is growing without the line and the white is blending in nicely. Should I start using a shampoo for grey hair now?
