I was in a similar situation. My hair is naturally light brown(30%) and gray (70%). I had been dying my hair BLACK for many, many years, and I wanted to return to my natural color, but I didn't want to have to cut off all my hair. Believe it or not, there are many stylists that are able to lift that dark dye out of your hair. It may take two to three appointments to accomplish this, and your hair will be fragile and brittle afterward, but it is quite effective. My black dye was lifted and then when it was all out, they dyed it my natural shade of light brown. Then I let my grays come in each month, and now I am completely natural. It will take time, but it is worth it.
I use Aveda Blue Malva Shampoo. I also have started to massage my scalp as I read that this also helps. I would NEVER dye my hair again. When I finally got the dye out of my hair and went completely "salt and pepper" it felt very liberating.
I so agree. Jamie Lee Curtis, Emilou Harris, and Kate Moss is sporting their gray and it looks great. Short, long who cares, as long as you have the right style, it looks fantastic.
I am 46 years young and have struggled for the last six years on letting the gray come out. I am so glad I did and it looks wonderful in my short style. I am glad to see that Hollywood and everyday people are embracing their age and stop putting so much into being young, as no one is young for ever. Hoorah for the gray; it never looked so good. It just goes to prove that with the right hairstyle, you do not have to look old with gray hair.
