I was so happy to see on Twitter that you had a blog supporting "going gray!" I have been a proud gray-haired middle aged woman for several years now. In fact I also have a "Gray Is Beautiful" blog and developed a line of products in support of being gray on my "Gray Is Beautiful" gallery using my gray is beautiful graphics and statements. I hope you get a chance to check us out. "Gray Is beautiful!" and "I'm PROUD To Be Gray!"
Have a great day.

I was 15 when I discovered my first gray hair. I wasn’t too horrified becuase my maternal grandmother had beautiful white hair as did my paternal grandfather. I knew someday it would be my destiny as well. I hadn’t planned on coloring my hair. I was going to wear it proudly until one day, in my late 20′s I saw a picture of myself showing the back of my head. I had no idea my hair was as gray as it was. I was about to be the maid of honor in my best friends wedding and vowed my hair would be all brown in her wedding pictures, not salt and pepper. I was after all only 23. So began the years of chemical warfare on my head to hide the gray. A little over 10 years later I asked my friend Tina, who also happened to be my hairdresser at the time, how in the world can I ever stop coloring my hair and let it grow out? She always replied with “you’re so gray, you’re just going to have to shave your head and let it grow back in”. Well that seemed a little drastic to me so I sat with that for awhile. Every time the subject came up, Tina’s answer was the same, shave your head! One day shortly after my 40th birthday, I walked into Tina’s shop for a haircut. She asked what I wanted her to do and I replied “shave it off! I’m ready”. She was the one horrified now. She wasn’t about to shave my head. Three consecutive haircuts later, she finally agreed to get out the buzzer and give me a crew cut. I loved it! I was surprised at how gray my hair actually was. It felt great to show the real me again. Sure there are days when someone asks my daughter if she’s with grandma but I just smile and let them think what they will. I love the freedom of not having to color my hair and don’t miss putting all of those chemicals milimeters from my brain!
I’m letting my hair grow out also. I’ve dyed it blonde for years and now am curious what’s underneath… It appears more white on top and sides and a lot of dark in the back. The dark in the back is much darker than it was 2o years ago… I’m trying to get used to the color but still have a lot of bleached dark reddish blonde and light blonde and the line of growth is showing and doesn’t look that great… I tried having low lights and white highlights put in but can’t seem to find the right colorist to understand what I’m wanting… I’m just wanting the new growth not to stand out so much… what does anyone think is the best thing to do? Should I put in a semi color of light brown to help?
