Going Gray Painting from Claire Douglass

by going gray on February 14, 2009

venus-deleted-20091Going grey? I’ve been slowly silvering around the temples since I was a teenager. Having spent the following three decades exploring the entire spectrum of available hair tints, I finally gave up last year and went natural.

It’s a slow, tedious and irritating process for a control freak. I resisted the temptation to mascara in the ever widening stripe of grey at the roots, but only because I never left the house without a headband or artfully arranged turban. I am still waiting for my long luxuriant mane, at a measly 4″ it’s looking a bit utilitarian, sensible but ordinary. I want the full Marie Antoinette, lashings of white and silver to pile up on my head or swish around my shoulders.

The whole process of revealing my ‘old lady’ hair has also been interesting. The reactions of other people have not always been predictable, and I’ve had to accept my own very visible maturity.

Whenever I am confronted with issues to resolve, I make art, so I want to share this painting with the readers of this blog. Because you’ll get it.

The title is, “Venus Deleted”.

I absolutely love that picture – it’s very moving in a strange way. :)

This lady’s art work is fantastic and she says some very thought provoking things which are relevant to us going grey ladies. Take a look at her web site.

This I can say
Going gray is inevitable
You can glamorize it and such
It just happens
